Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between behavior-oriented knowledge sharing and innovative behavior and the moderating effects of collectivism on the aforementioned relationship. It also assesses the impact of epistemic motivation and pro-social motivation on behavior-oriented knowledge sharing.
Design/methodology/approach
Focusing on Chinese context, the study conducts a questionnaire survey to test the research model. Linear regression analysis is used to examine the main effects of the independent variables, and the multi-level linear regression model is used to evaluate the moderating effects of the controlled variables.
Findings
The findings reveal that epistemic motivation stimulates individual-oriented knowledge sharing and pro-social motivation stimulates organization-oriented knowledge sharing. Organization-oriented knowledge sharing impacts more than individual-oriented knowledge sharing on innovative behavior. Moreover, collectivism is shown to positively moderate the relationship between behavior-oriented knowledge sharing and innovative behavior.
Practical implications
The study provides evidence that motivation should be significantly considered when sharing knowledge. Managers should prioritize the promotion of employees’ epistemic and pro-social motivation. The study also suggests that encouraging collectivism should be an important objective, as it moderates the relationship between knowledge sharing and innovative behavior positively.
Originality/value
The study emphasized how individual-oriented and organization-oriented knowledge sharing impacts innovative behavior differently and how collectivism moderates that relationship. It also illustrates how epistemic and pro-social motivation affects behavior-oriented knowledge sharing. The study contributes to a stream of research that links knowledge sharing and innovative behavior.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to study the effect of processing parameters and the fundamental mechanism of surface morphologies during electron beam selective melting.
Design/methodology/approach
From the powder-scale level, first, the discrete element method is used to obtain the powder bed distribution that is comparable with the practical condition; then, the finite volume method is used to simulate the particle melting and flowing process. A physically reliable energy distribution of the electron beam is applied and the volume of fluid method is coupled to capture the free boundary flow. Twelve sets of parameters grouped into three categories are examined, focusing on the effect of scan speed, input powder and energy density.
Findings
According to the results, both melting pool width and depth have a positive relation with the energy density, whereas the melting pool length is insensitive to the scan velocity change. The balling effect is attributed to either an insufficient energy input or the flow instability; the hump effect originates from the mismatch between electron beam moving and the fluid flow. The scan speed is a key parameter closely related to melting pool size and surface morphologies.
Originality/value
Through a number of case studies, this paper gives a comprehensive insight of the parameter effects and mechanisms of different surface morphologies, which helps to better control the manufacturing quality of electron beam selective melting.

Abstract
Purpose
Interdependency among industries is vital for understanding economic structures and managing industrial portfolios. However, it is hard to precisely model the interconnecting structure among industries. One of the reasons is that the interdependencies show a different pattern in tail events. This paper aims to investigate industry interdependency with the tail events.
Design/methodology/approach
General predictive model of Rapach et al. (2016) is extended to an interdependency model via least absolute shrinkage and selection operator quantile regression and network analysis. A dynamic network approach was applied on the Fama–French industry portfolios to study the time-varying interdependencies.
Findings
A denser network with heterogeneous central industries is found in tail cases. Significant interdependency varieties across time are shown under dynamic network analysis. Market volatility is identified as an influential factor of industry connectedness as well as clustering tendency under both normal and tail cases. Moreover, combining dynamic network with prediction direction information into out-of-sample industry return forecasting, a lower tail case is obtained, which gives the most accurate prediction of one-month forward returns. Finally, the Sharpe ratio criterion prefers high-centrality portfolios when tail risks are considered.
Originality/value
This study examines the industry portfolio interactions under the framework of network analysis and also takes into consideration tail risks. The combination of economic interpretation and statistical methodology helps in having a clear investigation of industry interdependency. Moreover, a new trading strategy based on network centrality seems profitable in our data sample.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims at examining the emergence of the current structure of the real estate agency businesses in Beijing in the age of information technology.
Design/methodology/approach
The study utilises the analytical framework developed under the Grounded Theory model by coding the interview results with six major real estate agencies in Beijing.
Findings
The model explains the metamorphosis development of a new sector of service agents in the society which itself is undergoing colossal changes in the socio‐economic system. The analysis shows that the impact of information technology does not pose a threat to these agents in Beijing in various circles, but works to increase the competitive advantages inducing more collaboration and market innovations.
Research limitations/implications
The research is limited to the city of Beijing only and generalisation of the conclusion from the analysis needs to be qualified carefully for other cities in China, or even other countries.
Originality/value
The advent of information technology, especially in the last decade has set the momentum for changes in various sectors of our society. However, the impact is not felt evenly on each of these sectors in the society. The service industry is a typical example where a wide spectrum of sub‐sectors exists, ranging from close personal services such as hairdressing to information selling. The degree of impact from the new era of information revolution varies with the nature of each sub‐sector.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to investigate the effect of characteristic parameters of pits on the mechanical properties and fracture model of cable steel wires.
Design/methodology/approach
The tensile test and finite element analysis of steel wires with corrosion damage were carried out. The stress development of corroded steel wire under corrosion morphology was studied by the 3D reverse reconstruction technology. The internal relationship between the stress triaxiality, equivalent plastic strain and pit depth, depth-width ratio of corroded steel wire was discussed.
Findings
With the increase of corrosion degree, the neck shrinkage phenomenon of steel wire was not significant, and the crack originated near the pit bottom and expanded to the section inside of specimen. The fiber area of corroded steel wire decreased while the radiation area increased, and the ductile fracture gradually changed to brittle fracture. The pit size significantly changed the triaxial degree and distribution of stress and accelerated the initiation and propagation of internal cracks at the neck shrinkage stage.
Originality/value
The proposed fracture model based on the void growth model could accurately simulate the fracture behavior of steel wires with corrosion damage.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to propose a binocular visual odometry algorithm based on the Random Sample Consensus (RANSAC) in visual navigation systems.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors propose a novel binocular visual odometry algorithm based on features from accelerated segment test (FAST) extractor and an improved matching method based on the RANSAC. Firstly, features are detected by utilizing the FAST extractor. Secondly, the detected features are roughly matched by utilizing the distance ration of the nearest neighbor and the second nearest neighbor. Finally, wrong matched feature pairs are removed by using the RANSAC method to reduce the interference of error matchings.
Findings
The performance of this new algorithm has been examined by an actual experiment data. The results shown that not only the robustness of feature detection and matching can be enhanced but also the positioning error can be significantly reduced by utilizing this novel binocular visual odometry algorithm. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed matching method and the improved binocular visual odometry algorithm were also verified in this paper.
Practical implications
This paper presents an improved binocular visual odometry algorithm which has been tested by real data. This algorithm can be used for outdoor vehicle navigation.
Originality/value
A binocular visual odometer algorithm based on FAST extractor and RANSAC methods is proposed to improve the positioning accuracy and robustness. Experiment results have verified the effectiveness of the present visual odometer algorithm.

Historic districts are faced with inadequate features protection and landscape destruction in the process of accelerating urban construction, urban design focuses on how places function in addition to how they look, this theory is suitable for the protection of historical districts. At the present stage, the traditional urban design of historical districts has a series of problems, such as uncomprehensive research about characteristics, incomplete workflow and the lack of transformation route from design scheme to implementation, the main reason is that there is a mismatch between the setting goal and planning implementation. Urban design based on “Action planning” has the characteristics of comprehensive research contents, specific implementation plans and complete workflow, it arranges the workflow with four stages, including design preparation, design planning, design implementation and design evaluation, which is a new exploration and attempt to turn traditional blueprint-oriented into action-oriented. Urban design of North Shuncheng Lane Historic Districts in Xi'an city used action planning as a concept and established an framework including “identify development status and problems—construct action target and strategy—determine action projects and specific plans—improve and evaluate the results”, to implement design ideas into practice and to guide the protection of historic districts. Above all, action-oriented planning is considered the key to the development of historic districts.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationships among choice of industry diversification, capabilities and business group performance, as well as to point out the potential concern about endogenous role of industry diversification.
Design/methodology/approach
Using data from the top 100 business groups in Taiwan from TEJ database. This study uses Heckman’s two-step estimation procedure and contingency model to achieve unbiased results and examine our hypotheses.
Findings
The results of this study find that if business groups’ marketing or operational capabilities are strong they should adopt a high level of diversification strategy and if business groups’ R&D capability is strong they should adopt a low level one. The results of this study also show that the endogenous problem of industry diversification exists, and needs to be considered. Moreover, our finding confirms the importance of capability–strategy fit, which, in turn, can achieve better performance.
Practical implications
On average, high industry diversification groups perform better than low industry diversification groups after controlling for endogeneity issues. Business groups can achieve better performance if their strategy choices match the capabilities they encounter. Managers should pay attention to strategy-capability fit issues. Specifically, they should review their organizational capabilities as well as check their strategies within firms.
Originality/value
This study is one of the first that attempts to explore the endogenous role of diversification strategy choices, and empirical examine strategy-capability fit on business group performance.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze if the composition and activity of the appointment and remuneration committee have a significant effect in the remunerations of the members of the board of directors.
Design/methodology/approach
To achieve the paper's objective the authors proposed four hypotheses in order to analyze the repercussions of independent, institutional and executive directors in the Appointment and Retribution Committee (ARC) and its activity in the directors’ remunerations.
Findings
The results put into evidence that the composition (independent, institutional and executive members) of the ARC is not associated with the variation of the directors remuneration mean, while the activity of the ARC influences positively this remuneration mean, contrary to what was expected.
Originality/value
The ARC in Spain is not effective in fixating the directors’ remunerations.

El objetivo de este artículo es analizar si la configuración y actividad de las comisiones de nombramientos y remuneraciones (CNR) tienen un efecto significativo en las remuneraciones de los miembros del consejo de administración.
Diseño/metodología/enfoque
Para alcanzar el objetivo del artículo hemos planteado cuatro hipótesis con la finalidad de analizar la repercusión de los consejeros independientes, dominicales y ejecutivos de las CNR y la actividad de las mismas en las remuneraciones de los consejeros.
Hallazgos
Los resultados ponen de manifiesto que la composición (miembros independientes, dominicales y ejecutivos) de las CNR no se asocian con la variación de las remuneraciones medias de los consejeros, mientras que la actividad de las CNR influye de manera positiva, contrario a lo pronosticado, en las variaciones de las retribuciones medias de los consejeros.
Originalidad/valor
Las CNR en España no son efectivas en la fijación de las retribuciones de los consejeros.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to explore the relationship between elderly users' trust in public digital cultural services (PDCS) and their intention to use PDCS, and reveal the factors affecting their intentions from the perspective of trust to make recommendations that will increase their intention to use PDCS.
Design/methodology/approach
Combined with the trust building model and social exchange theory, this study constructed a conceptual model of elderly users' intention to use PDCS. Data collected from Chinese elderly users who have reached the age of 60 through questionnaire surveys were tested using the structural equation model with partial least squares. Finally, the authors proposed a model of elderly users' intention to use PDCS.
Findings
This study finds that elderly users' trust positively affects their intention to use PDCS from two aspects: service features and user features of PDCS. Concerning the service features, system quality directly affects elderly users' trust in PDCS most significantly, followed by information quality and service reputation. Concerning the user features, perceived value has a higher impact on elderly users' trust than that of service features, and information literacy and information quality directly affect perceived value.
Originality/value
This study adds new knowledge to the users' behavior of PDCS and enriches the prior description of PDCS. The recommendations made in this study provide a series of strategies for practitioners and researchers to improve the elderly users' intention to use PDCS and bridge the silver digital divide, which offers new ideas for improving the efficiency of PDCS.
